  • Basic rules
    • Actions
      • You and the zombies can do only one action at a time: move or attack.
      • You can move in any direction or fire an arrow in the highlighted area.
        • You can only move in the direction of the red squares.
        • You cannot move to a square with fire.
        • You can use castles to move quickly across other parts of the field. These will transport you to any random part of the map.
      • The zombies move one space at a time. They, however, will move toward you.
    • General
      • Your task is to clear the level by killing all the zombies present.
        • There are three ways to kill zombies without losing a life:
          • Shoot arrows at them.
          • Have the zombies move toward the fire.
          • Have the zombies touch each other.
        • You can defeat all the zombies in a level without ever shooting at them.
        • The zombies will also die if they try to kill you, but you’ll lose a life this way.
      • Once all the zombies are dead, you move up a level.
        • Keep moving up levels until you run out of lives.
        • Select retry to begin a new session.
    • Skeleton types
      • Green hair – these skeletons are dumb & move the most direct route toward you, even if it leads them to certain death.
      • Red torso – you do not actually have to defeat them & they do not hurt you if they run into you, but if other zombies run into them then the other zombies will die.
      • Bird – more clever opponent than the green haired skeleton. These will go at an angle around harmful objects rather than trying to go through them.
      • Large near corner – this does not move more than a cell or two from a corner castle. You have to move in a creative pattern in order to trick it into stepping into a spot you can shoot.
      • Maroon – this one shoots arrows orthogonally each time it moves.
    • Shooting
      • The range you have for each level varies.
        • Your area of effect appears as two spots marked by crosshairs.
        • The area of effect is determined at random depending on where you move. Each time you move, it changes.
      • The zombies must be within the marked spaces for you to shoot them.
        • If a zombie moves to the space with the crosshairs after you attack, you will still be able to kill them.
        • If you shoot when a zombie is within your area of effect, it will also perish.
      • After a zombie dies, the effect of your shots can still be felt. If a zombie walks into it, it will also die.
  • Scoring
    • You earn between 20 and 30 points for ever zombie you kill.
  • Lives
    • You start the game with 2 lives.
      • Each time a zombie reaches you, you lose a life.
      • Lose all your lives and it’s game over.
    • You can use the extra lives button to win more lives.
      • Our website does not use in-game ads, so go ahead and press the button as many times as you want!
      • Theoretically, this means you can play indefinitely, though you must build up lives before your life count reaches zero.
  • Tips
    • Aiming
      • The direction you move not only impacts your location, but also impacts which directions you will shoot arrows.
        • You shoot at a 90 degree and 270 degree angle to the direction you moved.
      • Ensure your movements do not misalign your shots.
        • If you need to burn a turn without ruining your shot aim you can shoot at nothing and stand still until the next turn.
    • Dumb vs smart enemies
      • Enemies die if they run into each other, corpses of already defeated enemies, or fire.
      • Most of the enemies you face are dumb and take the most direct routes possible, meaning it is easy to get them to walk into something that will destroy them.
      • Some enemies, like the birds, are smart. They route around obstacles rather than going the most direct path.
      • Some of the large enemies which crowd near the upper left castles require you to have them have no movement possibilities other than stand where they will get hit or run into you. In those cases they’ll typically run into you.
      • The optimal strategy for each opponent type depends on their approach.
    • Trapped?
      • If you get trapped you have a couple options.
        • Look to see if there is a castle at a diagonal or straight from you which you can reach before your enemies reach you.
          • The castles work most of the time for a quick escape in early levels, though they stop working / you can’t visit those squares somewhere beyond level 40.
          • There is no guarantee as to where the castle will place you after you warp.
        • Stand still or move to a square where many enemies will hit you at once, so they will also damage each other.
